Zoom plans and pricing

Zoom sells its meetings product, Zoom Workplace, in four plans on its US pricing page. Prices are per user, and a user here means someone who hosts meetings.

Zoom also sells a Business Plus plan, but its US pricing page showed no Business Plus price when we checked. For that plan and for Enterprise, you get a quote.

Monthly or yearly billing

Paying yearly takes about a sixth off. On Pro, that's $2.83 less per user each month, or $33.96 a year. On Business it's $3.66 a month, or $43.92 a year. Yearly billing makes most sense for a team whose size you already know.

For longer terms, Zoom's pricing page points you to its sales team for pre-paid packages of one, two or three years.

What each plan adds

  • Basic: meetings of up to 40 minutes, one-on-one calls included, with up to 100 people.
  • Pro: meetings of up to 30 hours, still up to 100 people, and 10 GB of cloud recording storage per user.
  • Business: up to 300 people in a meeting, single sign-on and managed domains, and the same 10 GB per license.
  • Enterprise: cloud storage with no cap, plus whatever you negotiate with Zoom's sales team.

One detail catches teams out. The 40-minute limit follows the host's own license, not the company's. Zoom's help pages say meetings hosted by Basic users are limited to 40 minutes, on free and paid accounts alike. So everyone who hosts client meetings needs a paid license of their own.

What Zoom costs a team

Take a team of 10 people who each run their own client meetings. Each needs a Pro license at least, so the bill is 10 licenses, every month or every year.

10 hosts, one year, our arithmetic from Zoom's per-user prices
PlanOne host a year10 hosts a year
Pro, billed monthly$203.88$2,038.80
Pro, billed yearly$169.92$1,699.20
Business, billed monthly$263.88$2,638.80
Business, billed yearly$219.96$2,199.60

The people on the other side of the call cost nothing. Zoom's help pages say you don't need a Zoom account to join a meeting as a participant, so your clients never add to the bill.

What the price leaves out

  • Tax. Zoom adds sales tax or VAT where your billing address calls for it, and shows the amount at checkout.
  • Bigger meetings. Pro holds 100 people. Past that you move to Business or buy Zoom's Large Meetings add-on, which takes a meeting up to 1,000. The pricing page lists no price for the add-on.
  • Webinars. Zoom Webinars is a separate product, from $89.00 a month billed monthly, or $66.67 a month billed yearly.
  • Recording space. Cloud recordings count against 10 GB per user on Pro and Business. Long client sessions fill that faster than you'd think.

How the bill grows with every host

Zoom's price is a straight line. Every person who hosts adds the same amount, however often they meet. A consultant with two client calls a month costs as much as one with twenty.

Yearly cost by number of hosts, billed yearly
HostsProBusiness
1$169.92$219.96
5$849.60$1,099.80
10$1,699.20$2,199.60
20$3,398.40$4,399.20

For a growing firm, the real number is what the next hire costs, and the one after that.

No per-seat fees, every host included

Castio prices it the other way round. It's video meeting software where clients meet you at your own address, like meet.yourfirm.com, in your brand. Castio runs in your own Cloudflare account, and we install it for you. Every host is included, with no per-seat fees. Cloudflare includes 10,000 free meeting minutes a month, counted for each person in a call. A 10-person team holding five one-hour meetings a week, four people in each, uses about 5,200, so it pays only Workers Paid: about $5 a month in total. Recording every meeting brings it to about $17. Cloudflare's meeting service is free while it's in beta. After that, Cloudflare's published plan includes 10,000 free meeting minutes a month, which is what this example uses. Cloudflare sets these prices and can change them. How we worked it out.

That means adding a colleague doesn't change what you pay us. The part that grows is Cloudflare's bill for the meetings you actually hold. See the full cost, read how it works for a consulting firm, or set the two side by side in the Zoom comparison.
